Recently one of my largest clients put together criteria for when Predictive Evaluation (PE) could be used with their courses. I thought it was a wonderful approach and have dedicated this blog to it. The questions asked below are operationalized in order with a yes or no response. To be considered a viable candidate for PE, they are looking for yes answers.
- Is the training request targeting specific business outcomes?
- Does the project have multiple course deliveries over an extended life cycle (6-12 months+)?
- Do Training Design and/or the Client (business) have the opportunity to enhance the course during this period?
- Is the Client (business) willing to invest the time to:
- Define Intention goals
- Identify Beliefs
- Describe adoptive behaviors
- Examine potential barriers to adoption and provide (pre/post) training reinforcement
- Can qualifying occur at the instructional design analysis phase and no later than the “initial training design draft”?
- Will a joint Go/No-Go decision be made by the steering committee (Client & Design) after the course’s Predicted Value is determined?
While this qualifying criterion is for Predictive Evaluation, it could easily be modified other forms of evaluation as well. As always, I look forward to your comments.
