Enterprise Learning Strategy

At Dave Basarab Consulting, we’re experts in creating Enterprise Learning Plans.  We work with you to develop your company’s learning strategy and direction, and help you make decisions about allocating financial and staff resources to pursue this strategy.

Learning is an economic elixir.  It makes people and organizations more adaptable, responsive and nimble.  It serves as the bedrock for innovation, as it’s impossible to innovate without learning something new.  It’s the foundation for extraordinary customer service, employee attraction, retention, and development and is the fuel for profitable growth. It can shape culture.  And when it’s done right, it’s one of those rarest opportunities – where employers’ and employees’ needs are in perfect harmony.  In the vast majority of cases, it offers significant benefits for both employers and employees.

Learning investments require a long-term focus and an ability to balance the tradeoffs between profits today for greater returns in the future. In short, having the right learning strategy will increase an organization’s ability to create value.

METHODOLOGY

We use a proven process to build a robust, best-in-class Enterprise Learning Plan. We use the following steps to create these plans:

  1. Review your competency assessment data available for the target audiences. Identify the trends. If you don’t have competencies or assessment data, we work with you to create them.
  2. Interview a cross-section of key executive and subject matter experts to outline the ideal requirements for “Master Performers” in your target audiences.
  3. We identify the gaps that exist between the current skill levels and the needed performance levels.
  4. We work with you and review your company’s Strategic Plan, HR Strategy and determine what the role will be for target population in the future and what they’ll need to do to ensure the plans are realized.
  5. We then develop the Enterprise Learning Plan outlining the training required to get the target population to current ideal states and prepare them for the role in the future. In this approach we provide a framework for the identification, design, development, deployment, and evaluation of the curriculum. It frames the curriculum in the broadest strategic context then guides curriculum designers in drilling down to the most discrete curricular component.

The comprehensive nature of our Enterprise Learning Plans makes it ideal for sustaining design integrity across the multiple curricular elements. Design integrity helps maintain cohesive strategies within the curriculum processes. The interlocking components ensure that curriculum fulfills company and fiduciary missions, they include:

  • The deep understanding of the populations to be served;
  • Knowledge of the objectives they seek and desired on-the-job behaviors;
  • A comprehensive integration of learning theory, methods and principles appropriate to successful learning;
  • A strategic conceptualization of the overall curriculum architecture providing a full scope of programs and approaches;
  • A synthesis of specific curriculum configurations designed to meet specific learner’s needs; and finally
  • The design, development and deployment of the array of services required by learners to meet their objectives – in other words a set of recommendations for operationalizing the Strategic Learning Plan.

We partner with you to develop a three-to-five-year Strategic Learning Plan that will form the foundation of “people development” in the future.

Structure of our Strategic Learning Plans

We view this as a skills, information, and cultural shift effort with respect to the Enterprise Learning Plan.  Clearly not all employees require the same content or depth of training.

  • In developing the Learning Plan, we will consider the learning needs of the senior leaders, mid-level leaders, first line managers, and individual contributors.
  • A prioritized sequence of courseware, including recommended delivery methodologies.
  • Recommendations for non-training related activities that support the Learning Plan.
  • A strategy to assess and measure the effectiveness of the components within the Learning Plan.

Success Stories

Dave Basarab’s Predictive Evaluation approach is unique in its emphasis on predicting, and then measuring, leading indicators – intention and adoption – rather than just waiting for final results. This innovative approach shortens the continuous improvement cycle, allows learning organizations to respond more quickly to opportunities and issues, and produces greater value more quickly.
